Meet Paul Dunsdon
Beginning in 2008 in St. George, Utah, and refined through 13 seasons as Ironman Captain. I’m proud to be bringing advanced manual therapy and sports massage to Billings, Montana.
FROM ST. GEORGE TO BILLINGS
The Performance Advantage began in 2008 in St. George, Utah, as Sports Massage of Dixie. I built my practice on a simple idea: sports massage therapy should be part of the sports team, not a wellness trend or an afterthought for treating injuries. What started as a small, sports-focused practice, Sports Massage of Dixie, grew into The Performance Advantage, and a trusted resource for athletes, active adults, and anyone who needed more than a feel-good session. The practice refined its identity through real demands, real injuries, and real outcomes. That experience shaped a philosophy that still guides the work today.
Then came thirteen seasons with Ironman St. George. Thirteen. If anything will sharpen a practice’s identity, it’s trying to get endurance athletes out of pain when they’re hanging on by a thread and three gels. You learn pretty fast what works, what doesn’t, and what’s just Instagram bait. That whole era shaped the philosophy here today.
Now based in Billings, Montana. The Performance Advantage carries that same commitment forward: improve performance, reduce recovery time, support injury rehabilitation.
Every session blends advanced manual therapy with the fundamentals of exercise science and sports medicine. The work starts with clinical reasoning: understanding which structures are involved, which movements provoke symptoms, and which patterns keep the problem alive. Treatment flows from there, integrating soft-tissue techniques, mobility strategies, and targeted home programming. This approach follows principles used in athletic training rooms and rehabilitative care, where outcomes matter, and progress needs to be measurable.
For many clients, the connection between massage therapy and exercise science is new. The Performance Advantage makes that connection clear. Soft tissue work restores mechanical readiness, including osteokinematics, arthrokinematics, extensibility, and force production. Exercise physiology explains how tissue responds to load, how strength and endurance develop, and how the body adapts. Sports medicine bridges the two, showing when to apply each tool, in what order, and at what intensity. When these fields work together, clients don’t just feel better, they begin moving better, which leads to faster recovery times and long-lasting results.
The Performance Advantage exists to close the gap between massage therapy, movement science, and everyday performance. It’s a place for people who want care that is grounded, clear, and rooted in methods that actually work—so they can stay mobile, capable, and ready for whatever life expects of them next.

What Clients Consistently Say
I’ve been practicing since 2008. From the Ironman St. George years to my work now in Billings, one thing hasn’t changed: the work either helps or it doesn’t.
A common example: endurance athletes who keep getting the same “nagging” issue that interrupts training. One Ironman competitor came in with recurring knee discomfort and reduced tolerance for run volume. We focused on the tissues and patterns most likely to contribute to his symptoms, tracked what changed from session to session, and adjusted based on what his training demanded. He later reported better mobility, less irritation during training, and a smoother race build. That’s the approach I bring to every session.
Every competitor gets treated like a champion, not with hype, but with a plan. My focus is sports and injury-focused massage: improving movement quality, supporting recovery, and helping you train with fewer setbacks. And it’s not just for athletes. I work with active adults, desk-worn bodies, and people coming back from injuries who want their body to cooperate again.
Want to know if this approach works? Check my reviews on MassageBook and Google. Clients share detailed feedback about session structure, communication, and the practical differences they noticed over time, how sessions were structured, how communication felt, and whether the work made a practical difference.
My goal is simple: earn your trust by doing work that has a clear purpose. Many clients stick with me through races, surgeries, setbacks, and comebacks because the process is consistent, measurable, and built around their goals.
Ready to see what that looks like for you? Book a session through the website. We’ll start with a thorough intake and a focused plan based on what you’re training for or what you’re trying to get back to.
Amazing!
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy I highly recommend Paul. I was a little worried about getting a deep tissue massage hours before IM St George 140.6 but my concerns were quickly put to rest. I have been having hip problems and decided to splurge at the last minute. I walked out and raced without any pain in the hip. I wish I had a few more hours in St George I would have loved to see what he could do post race!
AMAZING
I’ve had a lot of body work over the last 30 years. I found Paul to be the best body mechanic I have yet encountered. I’m a very active muscular athletic guy that carries a lot of tension, history of injuries, and I don’t recover like I did when I was in my 30’s. I came to Paul with misaligned posture, limited rotation in my neck, frozen shoulders and lower back, stiffness and pain. Paul started with a methodical analysis of my lifestyle, posture and flexibility. He worked through all of my joints meticulously, having pinpointed problem areas, combining deep tissue release, stretching and joint manipulation. He took his time and ran overtime. I left in better shape than I have been in a long while, joints aligned, range of motion highly improved, and flexibility restored to my shoulders, neck and hips, pain relieved. If you’re looking the best body mechanic and very real tangible results, you have found your therapist. Seriously, the results have been profound.
After years of various massage experiences, my eyes have been opened to the field of Sports Massage and credit is due to Paul Dunsdon. I was in town visiting friends and so benefited from my 1 hour session with Paul that I will be seeking out sports massage in my area. After a quick initial assessment, he knew exactly where the issues in my back and shoulder were and worked on those issues instead of applying a “cookie cutter massage” pattern as I have experienced in the past. He also explained what he was doing and why, something my science brain appreciates. This was the perfect massage for my problem areas and I cannot recommend him enough.
